Website accessibility for real estate portals and agencies

Since 28 June 2025 digital accessibility is a legal requirement for real estate portals and agencies too. Check for free, in about a minute, whether your site meets the WCAG 2.1 AA criteria required by the European regulation.

Why it concerns you too

If your site allows enquiries, viewing bookings or paid services it falls within the consumer services covered by the European Accessibility Act; for portals with subscriptions and paid listings the coverage is full. House-hunting is stressful enough already: an inaccessible site makes it impossible.

The obligation comes from EU Directive 2019/882 (European Accessibility Act), fully applicable since 28 June 2025. Non-compliance risks administrative fines, consumer complaints and remediation orders. Only service microenterprises are exempt: fewer than 10 employees and less than €2 million turnover.

The issues we find most often in this sector

  1. Map search with no alternative

Listings explorable only by dragging a map: an equivalent, accessible filter search is always needed.

  2. Floor plans as silent images

The floor plan is the listing's key information, but it is an image with no text description (size, rooms, layout).

  3. Inaccessible virtual tours

3D tours with no keyboard controls and no descriptions: the alternative should be a structured description of the rooms.

These are recurring examples found in scans of sites in this sector: your site may have others (or none at all). The only way to know is to check.
